RevAbs Review – Abcentrics Training for Great Abs?

RevAbs, developed by Brett Hoebel, is a Beachbody product.  Brett is a weight loss, nutrition, and lifestyle coach and was also the trainer on Season 11 of NBC’s The Biggest Loser.   His martial arts, kickboxing, strength, nutrition, yoga, and holistic health training has given him the knowledge necessary for creating a reputable and effective home fitness workout.

Rev Abs – Description

Rev Abs is a 90-day home fitness program that is intended to strengthen your core using a unique training technique called Abcentrics.   Abcentrics combine cardio and strength training with Capoeira, a Brazilian form of acrobatic martial arts.

Your abs will be working from six different angles.  It also includes interval-training techniques which help to burn fat as quickly as possible.  You will be toning and tightening your abs the entire time.  While this can be challenging, Brett makes it as fun as possible with his quirky personality.

Rev Abs – The Program

Rev Abs is a complete fitness program that includes all of the necessary components for success.  It includes the workouts, a nutrition guide, and online support, which are all necessary for a healthy transformation and overcoming obstacles that can get into the way of your goals.

Workouts

The program is broken into two phases. Each phase is 45 days long.  Phase 1 focuses on increasing strength and endurance, which will be needed for Phase 2.  Phase 2 is much more intense.  Each workout is broken down into three rounds.  The last round is the most challenging in an attempt to push you past your personal limits.

  • Abcentrics (8 minutes)/How to Capoeira  (15 minutes)
  • Fire Up Your Abs (40 minutes) – This workout includes intervals of cardio and core work that will work your abs from six different angles.
  • Power Intervals (30 minutes) – This workout increases your metabolism with high-intensity cardio.  It includes lower-body resistance intervals targeting your legs, glutes, and abdominals.
  • Total Strength (45 minutes) – Includes strength training targeting your core.
  • Mercy Abs (15 minutes) – This is an extremely intense abdominals workout that pushes you as far as you can go.
  • Rev It Up Cardio (45 minutes) – Capoeira and kickboxing are introduced in this workout targeting not only your abs, but your entire body.
  • Fat Burning Abs (40 minutes) – This workout combines intense cardio and intense abdominal routines for a full body workout focusing on abs.
  • Power Intervals 2 (30 minutes) – This routine works your lower body with resistance moves combined with intense cardio.
  • Strength & Endurance (30 minutes) – This is a total-body workout that strengthens your abs and sculpts your body.
  • Merciless Abs (15 minutes) – This is an extreme abs workout.
  • Full Throttle Abs (40 minutes) – This is another extreme abs workout targeting your midsection.
  • Full Throttle Intervals (45 minutes) – These intervals are longer and harder designed to get you the results you want.

Nutrition Plan

A huge part of the success of this program is following the nutrition plan.  While you can strengthen your abs, they will not be seen under a layer of fat.  It is absolutely essential that you follow a healthy nutrition plan to eliminate fat so you can see the results of your hard work.

You will start the nutrition plan with the 14-day Jump Start.  This is where you will begin the process of eliminating certain sugars, fruits, and starches.  You will also reduce your caloric intake dramatically, which is designed to force your body to use your fat for fuel.   Do not continue this low caloric diet past the 14-day program.

After the 14 days are up, you will increase your caloric intake based on the nutrition guide included with the program.  You can create your own menu based on the foods you like as the foods you can eat are all listed.

The plan calls for three meals and two snacks per day.  Here are some samples of the foods you can eat:

  • Veggie Omelet
  • Hard Boiled Eggs
  • Mexican Scramble
  • Shrimp Salad
  • Turkey Roll-Ups
  • Shrimp Cocktail
  • Dijon Pork Chops
  • Sirloin & Salad
  • Lemon Chicken
  • Protein Bars
  • Almonds
  • Shakeology

Shakeology can be purchased through the Beachbody website.

Rev Abs Pros/Cons

While the program is intense, it is simple to follow.  It combines cardiovascular exercises with strength training.  While the focus is on the abs, the entire body can be transformed with the types of routines the workouts provide.  All you need are some resistance bands or weights; however, they do not come with the program.  Expect to be on the floor a lot, which can be an issue for some people.

The nutrition guide does provide some tasty recipes making it easier to follow.  Having a list to follow also makes the decision process much simpler.  Counting calories can be annoying; however, this is necessary if you truly want to lose that weight.

Bottom Line

If you are ready to work hard to transform your body, then this could be the program for you.  If you are looking for a fun and easy program, you may want to look into other options.  For the quality and amount of workouts you receive, the one-time cost of $89.85 plus $14.95 S&H is not a bad investment.  You can also purchase Rev Abs by paying three monthly payments of $29.95 plus $14.95 S&H (processed on the first payment).
