ChaLEAN Extreme is a 90-day program based on the concepts of cardio and resistance training, with resistance training being the main focus.  While these concepts are commonly used for weight loss and fitness, the program becomes unique in the phasing process of these two concepts.  Chalene calls this Lean Phasing.

ChaLEAN Extreme – The Concept

Lean Phasing is a proven technique that shifts the focus of fat-burning from cardio to resistance training.  The idea is to implement resistance training in three different phases.  By following this three phase process, you will build lean muscle and increase your metabolism resulting in burning fat throughout the day and/or night instead of just while you are exercising.

ChaLEAN Extreme – The Program

The complete program comes with highly intense workouts and a detailed food guide, as well as other tools designed to improve your success rate.  In this program, you will be using weights and resistance bands.  The weights are not included with the program.

Workouts

Chalene takes the time to teach you the basics before you begin the first phase.  You will learn how to properly use the resistance bands and weights when performing the exercises.  Form is even more important than repetition.  Performing a small amount of reps in correct form is much more effective than performing a lot of reps incorrectly.  The first workout is Burn Basics (22 minutes).

Phase 1 (30 days) – Burn

This phase introduces weights designed to increase your metabolism and break down extra reserves of fat.  It begins by working your upper body and then focuses on your lower body.  This phase is broken into three workouts:  Burn Circuit 1 (36 minutes), Burn Circuit 2 (38 minutes), and Burn Circuit 3 (32 minutes).

Phase 2 (30 days) – Push

This phase pushes you beyond your comfort zone, which is important for improvement.  While you will be pushing past your personal limits, you will learn how to do this safely and effectively.  You will learn how to build muscle with heavier weights.  This phase is broken into three workouts:  Push Circuit 1 (33 minutes), Push Circuit 2 (35 minutes), and Push Circuit 3 (35 minutes).

Phase 3 (30 days) – Lean

Muscle definition is the key target for this phase.  You will learn different moves designed to sculpt and define your body.  This phase is a combination of weights and resistance bands.  This phase is broken into three workouts:  Lean Circuit 1 (45 minutes), Lean Circuit 2 (39 minutes), and Lean Circuit 3 (38 minutes).

Extreme Cardio

There are three workouts in this section of the program.  They are not included in the phases; however, they can be added at any time.  These include: Burn it Off (27 minutes), Recharge (21 minutes), and Burn Intervals (46 minutes).

Core Routines

These are two bonus routines not included in the phase process.  These include:  Ab Burner (10 minutes) and Extreme Abs (16 minutes).

Food Guide

The Fat Burning Food Guide provides information on healthy eating.  It is based on caloric intake recommendations of 1,200 to 1,500 for women and 1,400 to 1,700 for men.  The food plan is also broken into three phases.  These compliment the workout phases and are labeled Burn Phase, Push Phase, and Lean Phase.

The first phase basically focuses on reducing the amount of calories you intake based on your current weight and gender.   The following two phases will focus on increasing your portion sizes.   The guide provides a list of meals and snacks you can eat in each phase.

Once you have completed these three phases, there is a maintenance phase.  This involves adding in 100 calories per day for one week.  After the week is up, you will then add in 100 more calories per day until you maintain your goal weight.

ChaLEAN Extreme – Pros/Cons

The program is definitely intense; however, the workouts are less time consuming making it easier for people to include them in their daily schedule.    The phases make it easier to know exactly what needs to be done in order to achieve maximum results.

The food guide seems to be easy to follow; however, it may be frustrating trying to track the calories you consume daily.  It does not promote any appetite suppressors or fat-burning supplements, which could make reducing those calories a much easier process.

Bottom Line

This fitness workout is effective; however, if fun is your idea of a good workout, you may wish to look into other options.  This workout is intense but does produce results.  The price is reasonable for the amount of workouts you receive.  You can purchase ChaLEAN Extreme at a one-time price of $89.95 plus $19.95 S&H or broken into three monthly payments of $29.95 plus &19.95 S&H (processed with the first payment).
